7 Types of Food That Are Perfect for Summer Weight Loss

Hot days already make us less motivated to cook — extra heat? No, thanks! And yet, if you have a family or a partner you share your life with, cooking sort of becomes a must-do for at least one member of the family — or both, if you alternate.

Along with the lack of desire to turn on that stove, some might be trying to lose a few extra pounds, or even maintain their current weight if they’re happy with how it is at the moment. There’s a lot of foods that you’re already familiar with, but perhaps they haven’t been a part of regular your diet as much as they could (or should!) be.

We’ve created a list of delicious foods that are bursting with health and nutrients!

Here’s our top 7 summer foods:

Whole eggs

Delicious and healthy, eggs are packed with protein, vitamin D and other useful nutrients. This makes them the perfect breakfast food when you’re working towards weight loss.

The bonus of eating eggs for breakfast is that you’ll feel full for longer, and have more energy for the rest of your day.

Not to mention there’s a lot of different ways you can prepare eggs so you won’t get bored with them easily.

When it comes to nuts, most of them are filled with fatty acids that are healthy for your heart… when it comes to weight loss, not all nuts are your friends. So, which nuts are best if you want to slim down?

Brazilian nuts

Brazilian nuts are the richest known food source of selenium out there – just two of them provide you with more than a day’s worth of the mineral.

Selenium plays a key role in metabolism, immunity and reproductive health. They are also rich in copper, zinc, potassium, riboflavin, heart-healthy fats and magnesium, but you probably already stopped reading this and went to buy some, so see you later!

Here’s the thing,  if you’re trying to lose weight, saturated fats are your enemy. Polyunsaturated fats are your friend. Walnuts have about 13 grams per one-ounce serving, which makes them one of the best dietary sources.

Especially if eaten before the gym! Almonds, rich in the amino acid L-arginine, can actually help you burn more fat and carbs during workouts, which is wonderful news! They also taste lovely so it’s a win-win.

Besides being absolutely delicious no matter how you prepare it, salmon is packed with high-quality protein, healthy fats, and other valuable nutrients. It’s also full of omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to help in reducing inflammation. Fish, and seafood, in general, are filled with iodine which makes them a great choice for light summer meals.

One of the more unique fruits there is — yes, avocado is actually considered a fruit, which might come as a surprise since none of us really eat avocado as we would other fruits.

Can you imagine peeling an avocado and biting into it? Probably not.

Luckily, there’s plenty of other ways you can eat this delicious fruit as it’s filled with monounsaturated oleic acid, fiber, potassium and other useful nutrients.

Also, even though everyone knows avocados are mostly (healthy) fats, it still contains a lot of fiber and water so they’re probably less energy-dense than you might initially think.

Cottage cheese

If you’re a cheese lover you might already know of this protein power-house! All dairy products are a great source of protein, but cottage cheese is also lower in calories, with only a small amount belonging to fats or carbs, so it’s a great addition to a low-carb diet.

In fact, there have been some studies done which showed that people who ate cottage cheese before bed improved their metabolism and increased their weight loss. Sounds pretty good right? Good enough to try it out at least, we hope!

Whole grains

Whole grains are loaded with fiber and a nice amount of protein as well, so whole-grain items make for perfect mid-day snacks, a healthy breakfast, or a light dinner.

You can try whole grain cereal or whole grain bread, but we also recommend giving oats, quinoa, and brown rice a try as those are prime whole grain choices.

Remember that grain is still high in carbs so if you’re on a low-carb diet this might not be the right fit for you.

They also stimulate your digestive system so don’t be surprised if you’re visiting the toilet a bit more often once you implement a lot of whole grain and a lot of fiber into your regular diet.

Chia seeds

It seems like in recent years, everyone has been using chia seeds for everything — and there’s a good reason for that! It’s actually one of the best sources of fiber in the world.

Due to that, they actually absorb water and create a gel-like coat around it, expanding in your stomach.

That, in turn, can also make you feel more full, so all in all, chia seeds are a great superfood if you’re trying to work on your weight.

We hope you found your favorites in this list, and perhaps even had some creative ideas on how you could combine some of these superfoods with each other — we’re sure they would be delicious.
